Unfortunate Upset at Home

The Sheers followed their midweek match with another club contender for the League’s playoffs for April. Sheerwater started brightly and controlled the first half but the Terrors stormed back in the second half with great support to net 4 goals.

Sheerwater were without their top goal scorer who decided to switch clubs to Redhill on the basis of the prospect of playing more matches for the Lobsters.

The Sheers pressed from the kick off and were rewarded with a corner that Aidan Larkin sent unchallenged across the visitor’s area. On 3 minutes Kareem Foster raided the Terrors defence to bring in Aidan Larkin who shot on target that the terror’s keeper Toby McKimm saved at the near post. The Sheers took the lead on 6 minutes with Kareem Foster’s first shot blocked by McKimm but he could not save Fosters follow up who slotted home. On 28 minutes the visitors chance went away with Tariq Omar Mahmoud fluffing his chance to score. The Sheers went 2-0 up with good control by Harvey Valter to fire home on 33 minutes. On 44 minutes with good play by Harvey Valter holding up play and delivering a pass onto Aidan Larkin who then curled a cross to the far post that Jake Horn just failed to get his head to the ball. Sheers were caught cold on 46 minutes after a collision involving Archie Lowery & Terror’s player that allowed the Tadders no 9 Obisaanya space to go on and score into the far corner of the Sheers net with a good finish. HT 2-1.

The visitors equalise on 51 minutes with the Sheers failing to clear away the Terrors attack and defender Michael Onovwigun volleys home for 2-2. Sheers loose midfielder Jake Horn to injury on 59 minutes who is replaced by Sam Whitehead. The Sheers should have regained the lead with great play up field by Callum Mackie who surges forward to deliver a pass out to Kareem Foster who then sends in a cross that is met by George Sellick who heads wide of the Tadders target. Sheers pay the price for the miss as the a minute later the visitors take the lead with William Efambe crossing in to Substitute Alexandre Cruickshank who fires home for 2-3. Sheers bring on another forward on 75 minutes with Ethan Leeks replacing Freddie Loveridge. On 81 minutes the combination of Ethan Leeks & George Sellick’s inviting cross is cleared away by the Tadders Lewis Jackson. A minute later George Mackie over turns the Tadders play to surge forward and shoots that Toby McKimm palms away the shot. Sheers make another change with Dan Boyden coming on for Kareem Foster on 82 minutes and minutes later the Substitute Boyden raids down the right side to put in a dangerous cross that is cut out by a defender. Sheers keep the Tadders pinned in and are rewarded with a free kick that the danger is headed out by Michael Onovwigun.

With the Sheers pushing forward the visitor’s push forward and make the 3 points safe with a controversial off side decision on Alexandre Cruckshank breaking past the Sheers defenders to fire home past the Sheers keeper Henry Grad.

Another good game of football at Sheerwater with both teams putting on good performances with Tooting & Mitcham keeping in the mix for the play offs with this win roared on by their excellent away supporters.
