Unfortunate Defeat Away

Sheerwater arrived at Krooner Park with new signing George Sellick who played for the Sheers in season 2023-24 season. Also in the Sheers line up was former Krooners player Sam Whitehead who saw red on 94 minutes for a questionable sending off for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

On the first foul to Camberley from Sheers Whitehead came an outburst from the home bench that continued throughout the match.. Krooners no9 Maurice Black seeing the Sheers keeper of his line took a long shot that missus the target on 5 minutes. On 11 minutes good play down the left side from Razza Ajibola and a pass into Elliot York who’s shot is blocked. The home side took the lead on 15minutes with a ball to the far post that was put away by Maurice Black that should have been better defended by the Sheers. On 19 minutes a shot from Sheers Aidan Larkin was almost turned in by his team mate Razza Ajibola. Sheers Archie Lowery tracks back to stop a Krooners move upfield. On 25 minutes the Krooners keeper Upward come out and missus the ball and the Sheers take advantage with Elliot York’s shot on target that a defender does well to block the shot on the line. From the corner the Sheers get a second move going and George Sellick crosses into Razza Ajibola who heads a good chance over the Krooners bar. The Krooners sit in and defend the hill to take a 1-0 lead to end the first half.

Sheers attack the home side in the early stages but can not find a breakthrough and substitutions take place with Bryant & Ajibola being replaced with George Mackie and Harvey Valter who has been out injured from early January. The Krooners should have grabbed a second goal after the Sheers Mek McLaughlin’s header failed to reach the Sheers keeper that let in Krooners Maurice Black who was wasteful with missing the target. Black nearly made up for his miss seeing Sheers Churchwell off his line again but again his long shot missed the target. More changes for the Sheers with Tommy Whitby & Ethan Leeks coming on as substitutes. The Sheers almost made the breakthrough with Tommy Whitby meeting a cross and hitting the ball first time that the home side keeper Aiden Upward brilliantly saved. The Sheers commanded the second half without getting the goal needed whereas the Krooners were happy to sit on their lead and take their chances on the breaks and that time came on 92 minutes from former Sheers player Joel Ono who took the long ball down the middle of the pitch and out muscled his way past the Sheers defenders to fire home to settle the match for the home side. From another breakaway by the home side the Sheers were left trailing and Sam Whitehead fouled the forward and was sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity despite the presence of the Sheers defenders getting back to cover the attack.

A thoroughly disappointing day for the Sheers and their supporters for not playing to their usual capabilities.

Churchwell, Bryant (G.Mackie), Mackie C, Gardner, Whitehead, Lowery, Larkin (Leeks 70), York, Ajibola (Valter 61), McLaughlin, Sellick (Whitby 70)
