

The Sheers had to overcome a key player who was absent without leave that affected their first half performance where the Kingfishers were well worth their 0-1 lead. The Sheers stormed back in the second period with a hat trick from Elliot York after the visitors were reduced to 10 men.
The visitors were denied by the Sheers keeper Drew Churchwell getting a one handed save over the crossbar after a speculative shot from 40 yards by Callum Willmoth. The following corner was also brilliantly saved by Drew Churchwell from 6’ 9” tall Andy Matthews’s bouncing header tipping the ball over the bar. Sheers also recovered from being shut in on trying to come out from the back that produced a frantic clearance from keeper Drew Churchwell after receiving a short back pass from Ben Portbury. The visitor’s over head kick from Daniel Smith looped over the Sheers bar. Sheers Drew Churchwell was equal to a one on one situation with Kingfishers Kye Williams to block the attempt. Sheers finally got forward on 26 minutes with Ben Portbury starting from the back line to getting a shot away from 20 yards that went off target. The visitors opened the scoring on 31 minutes after a long throw that the Sheers failed to clear that fell to Charlie Knight who tucked away his shot past the Sheers keeper Drew Churchwell. The visitors piled on the pressure not allowing any time for the Sheers to get playing for the 40 minutes played. In the closing stages Sheers Ethan Leeks was near to getting a penalty not given by referee Nick Elliott.
The Kingfishers Charles Knight escaped a caution after a nasty challenge on the Sheers 5 Tom Gardner. Half Time 0-1.
Sheers were forced to make substitution to start the half with Ben Portbury being injured, Matt Bryant was the replacement. The visitors were reduced to 10 men on 49 minutes after no 7 Kye Williams was sent off by referee Nick Elliott. Sheers made a substitution with Ethan Leeks being replaced by Kareem Foster on 53 minutes. Despite the visitors being down to 10 men the Sheers still had to be alert to any long throws aimed at the tall Andy Matthews. Another Sheers substitution on 63 minutes for Dan Boyden to replace Tommy Whitby. On 65 minutes after a long Sheers throw into the visitor’s area Aidan Larkin’s first time shot goes the wrong side of the post. With the visitors deciding to sit in on the one goal advantage the Sheers needed to be patient and to carve out the opportunities. On 68 minutes Dan Boyden’s raid down the left hand side bringing a chance for Razza Rahman who does not get his shot away. Sheers equalise on 69 minutes from a Dan Boyden high cross into the visitor’s area that Elliot York gets up high to head the ball home from under the crossbar. With the visitors giving away fouls the Sheers take the lead from one of them with Elliot York shooting precisely into the bottom hand corner of the net from 30 yards. In the Sheers celebrations there is an altercation involving Sheers Bryant & the visitors Finlay Tombs both receiving cautions. On 86 minutes the Sheers extend their lead from a long throw that is headed on by Elliot York that Dan Boyden zips forward into the visitors box that keeper Wieczorek comes out to challenge Boyden who then takes it around the keeper to find the net from a very acute angle to put the Sheers 3-1 ahead. Elliot York finishes off his day with a hat trick on 90-6 minutes with Kareem Foster providing the perfect pass into the box that Elliot York executes superbly to put the Sheers 4-1 ahead to win the game in the second period.
