Another Win On The Books

Sheerwater won this tough match to record back to back wins for the Sheers to climb up to 7th in the league. Despite the opposition being in the lower reaches of the league they put in a good performance worthy of obtaining a draw.

The Sheers took the lead after just 10 minutes from Aidan Larkin’s corner that reached the far post that Jake Horn reacted the quickest to poke home to score. From an Alton corner that was headed on to the back post for the striker to head back towards goal that Sheers Callum Mackie headed the ball off the line. Alton equalised on 19 minutes with a good ball played into a good area for Alex MacAllister to beat the Sheers player Tom Gardner to the ball to send a delightful chip over the Sheers keeper Fabio Suarez into the net despite the Sheers keeper getting a hand to the ball. Sheers Mekhail McLaughlin launches a long ball over the top that is picked up by Aidan Larkin who feeds Tommy Whitby to shoot on target that brings out a full length save from keeper Henry Woodcock. Sheers get the ball forward with Harvey Valter with Harvey Valter’s press down the left who delivers a ball into the Alton area that Aidan Larkin cleverly runs over the ball for Elliot York to score at the far post on 43 minutes. Half Time 2-1.

Both teams in the second half fought hard, with the Sheers needing a decisive third goal to extend their lead and the visitors needing a deserved equaliser.

Sheers Elliot York skimmed the Alton post on 76 minutes with Alton’s Alex MacAllister going close with a overhead kick and Alton’s Josh Stepney going close with a shot that the Sheers keeper Suarez was down to save. The tension reached boiling point as referee Daniel Harvey played 11 minutes further than the 90 minutes with just a couple of minutes of injury time taken in the second half. In this time Alton pressed hard with pushing men forward that allowed the Sheers chances on the break that they failed to take.

The Sheers were delighted with the 3 points holding out Alton who gave everything in the match.
