Another Home Defeat

Sheerwater & Epsom & Ewell started the day off with paying their respects to the Armed Forces with a minute silence along with the Last Post from Bugler Sam.
The Sheers on a 7 home match unbeaten run came unstuck by a rejuvenated Salts side with new players coming into the squad.
After just 6 minutes the visitors went ahead with Robinson feeding Bloor who struck goal wards that the Sheers keeper parried directly onto the oncoming Tom Collins who headed home. On 17minutes Alfie Burton set up Aiden Larkin who shot wide of the Salts post. On 25 minutes the Salts no 9 smashed into the Sheers keeper that earns him a caution which was a testament that the visitors were here to battle. Keeper Drew Churchwell saved from the Salts no 7 Bloor on 29 minutes. On 30 minutes Sheers York & Larkin teed up for Aiden Larkin who shot past the Salts post. The visitors went 0-2 up on 40 minutes from a corner that was swung into the Sheers penalty area that curled into the far top corner beating Sheers keeper Churchwell who was put under pressure by two Salts defenders. Half Time 0-2 to Epsom & Ewell.
Sheers got themselves back in the game on 47 minutes from a free kick that Elliot York headed home for 1-2 and then levelled the score line for 2-2 on 51 minutes with the Sheers winning the ball back to attack the Salts that Harvey Valter brought the ball down to dink the ball over keeper Sam Nabbad. Sheers had a desperate time for a number of minutes on the hour mark as the Salts had a free kick and two consecutive corners to defend. Sheers fell behind again after an attack broke down on 65 minutes with Fofahan releasing a pass out to Murphy-McVey who hit home a stunning shot from 25 yards out that completely surprised the Sheers keeper Churchwell as the ball sailed into the net. Sheers responded with York having his shot blocked minutes later. On 68 minutes Sheers Valter see keeper Nabbad off his line and shoots from 30 yards that goes off target. On 74 minutes the Sheers pressure the Salts with more players forward that left them open as the Salts turn the ball into their own attack that Sheers Razza Ajibola sprints back to cut out the danger. Sheers continue to press for an equaliser and in one attack down the right side Asher Reid leap frogs the barrier fence after a nudge from a Salts defender that could have been nasty. On 85 minutes the Sheers make it 3-3 when the Salts defenders and the keeper get in each others way and George Mackie nips in to slide the ball home to score. The Sheers then commit the cardinal sin and fail to defend efficiently after Tommy Whitby loses out on a one on one tackle that could have been given as foul to the home side and the ball then pin balled off the Sheers defenders that then fell into the path of O’Keefe who was left unmarked who calmly rounded the Sheers keeper Churchwell to score to make the score line 3-4. With five minutes remaining Sheers tried in vain to level again with having three shots blocked as the Salts held firm to beat the Sheers for the first time in 4 previous visits.
