The Sheers arrived at Bob Schofield Way for their first away match in the South Division on a poor pitch that has had no water for months due to the Boars having a broken irrigation system. The Sheers swept up field in the first minute with Mekhail McLaughlin feeding Harvey Vaulter who slipped the ball through to Elliot York that the home side defended the threat. The home side’s weapon was to clear long balls up field and to get long throws into the Sheers penalty area. Sheers should have taken the lead on 10 minutes from an Elliot York pass into Alfie Burton who shot wide of the target from close in. Sheers had to make a substitution for the injured captain Mekhail McLaughlin being replaced by Callum Mackie on 13 minutes. On 23 minutes the Boars plan worked with a quick ball out of defence to Callum Samuel Harman who then jinked his way past the Sheers defenders only to be upended by Sheers Charlie Rose who was righty cautioned for his foul. The Boars free kick directed into the Sheers box by Luke Coxe came close to the Boars scoring. On 26minutes Sheers players Ajibola & Rose collided with Rose ending up with a gash to his chin who was patched up to continue to play on. On 27 minutes the Boars player had a free header to score that was not taken. Sheers keeper Drew Churchwell advances out of goal to make a good save on 36 minutes. On 44 minutes the Sheers take the lead after a Harvey Valter free kick is delivered that comes off a defender in the wall that is followed up with Razza Ajibola heading goal wards that was defended and was then followed up from Charlie Rose to head home to put the Sheers in front. With a lengthy added on time due the earlier injuries to players from both sides Sheers had to battle it out to the end of the half taking another caution for defender Tom Gardner.
In the second half with the first real chance fell to the Sheers with Charlie Rose delivering a cross to Harvey Vaulter who headed goal wards that was defended by the Boars player who in trying to head clear the ball hit the Boars crossbar.
The Boars levelled the score on 61 minutes from a long ball from the right side that was seemingly drifting out wide on the far side that stayed in that was then delivered back into the Sheers area from Ollie Nayes to Ciaran Carolan who makes no mistake to fire home to level the scores for 1-1. Sheers make another substitution on 66 minutes with Harvey Valter being replaced by Emeka Okakpu. The Sheers take to lead on 69 minutes after a long throw by Elliot York that eludes the packed penalty area to run out to the far side that is volleyed home brilliantly by Freddie Bailey for the 1-2 score line. On 73 minutes a piece of magic by Freddie Bailey puts out 3 Boars defenders with a pass to fullback Matt Bryant but his through ball is intercepted by the Boars defender to stop a good scoring chance. The Boars attack gives a nervy Sheers moment as the ball is bobbling around in the Sheers area that is finally taken by the Sheers keeper Churchwell. 78 minutes Freddie Bailey is replaced by Daniel Callan who is straight into the action with a long ball to Emeka Okakpu who picks out Elliot York at the far post but the threat is cleared well by the Boars defender. On 82 minutes an attack by Kenny Antony down the right flank who crosses into the Sheers area that Drew Churchwell prevents the chance with taking the ball diving down to save. On 86 minutes Aflie Burton feeds Emeka Okakpu who fires wide of the Boars goal. In the final stages the Sheers have to dig in to defend with the Boars attacks. Boars Luke Coxe good through ball is well defended by Matt Bryant. The Boars attack with numbers that has the Sheers defending at all costs to block the attempts with the final ball to Kenny Antony who has a great chance but he fires over the Sheers goal to the relief of the visitors. With the Sheers thinking it’s all over as the referee puts the whistle to his mouth but he then decides to allow play for the Boars to continue to attack the Sheers goal causing frustration to the visitor’s supporters and
management team. Sheers needed to make more substitions to the tired players but were minded that they could only use 3 out of 5 players so this won’t happen again.
