The Sheers travelled to Addlestone Moor against the lead leaders who had notched up 4 straight wins in the league and also knocked out Cobham of the Isuzu FA Vase on Saturday. On a sunny & very hot day manager TJ Barbato set the squad up with a game plan for the Sheers to execute to win the match to take home the 3 points.
Sheers drove forward from the start with York’s shot going close and York set up Okakpu with a perfect delivery who heads over the bar. Sheers opened the scoring on 10 minutes with Foster hitting the target after his first shot was parried by the Abbey keeper Longman. Abbey drew level on 12 minutes with their first attack from a cross on the left side that Petch hit home despite the challenge form Sheers Gardner. On 18 minutes a cross from Davies to Petch who misses a glorious chance to put the home side ahead. Sheers attack down the left side with Okakpu who cuts into the penalty area but he delays his shot that is defended only away to Sheers Alfie Burton who is then brought down with the penalty claim waived away but still Sheers have the chance with Razza shooting that keeper Longman saves. Abbey continued to attack the Sheers on the breaks that had Sheers defending corners & free kicks to end the half at 1-1.
Sheers take the lead on 53 minutes after Alfie Burton was fouled and with York's free kick being blocked that Foster follows up is also blocked and then Razza‘s determination gets him to take the chance to score. 57 minutes Sheers Gardner does well to defend the good Abbey attack. 59 minutes Abbey’s Robinson evades the Sheers penalty area that they hurriedly clear the danger away. Sheers go 1-3 ahead after York’s initial shot is block and substitute Vaulter lurking in the area finds the Abbey net with his first touch of the ball. On 83 minutes Abbey’s Robinson has a one on one with keeper Churchwell who blocks his attempt and the Abbey follow up shot is hit over the Sheers bar. On 79 minutes a long Sheers ball out to Vaulter on goal is defended well by Sewell. Abbey are denied a goal on 80 minutes for offside. Abbey continue to press but the determination from the Sheers players holds off the Abbey pressure. Sheers make their final substitutions with Dan Callan & Ethan Leeks coming on for Burton & Foster. In added on time Abbey again are denied a goal that is ruled out for offside.
Sheers put the game to bed on 96 minutes after Dan Callan won the second ball and played the ball in behind the Abbey defence to Valter who’s first effort was parried by the keeper but made no mistake to score his second goal to take home the deserved 3 points with a complete squad victory who worked tirelessly in the match for the win against the strong Abbey Rangers side.
