End To Our Cup Run

The Sheers bowed out of the Southern Combination Cup after a narrow defeat in the midweek match with SCR.

The Sheers were forced to make changes to their line up but it was a positive rotation with several young players stepping up to gain valuable minutes in the match.

SCR were first to make headway with a shot from Harlem-Lee Bouchez who shot into the Sheers side netting. Sheers responded from a good long ball to Elliot York that SCR defended the Sheers player making further headway. Sheers Tommy Whitby headed over the SCR bar and SCR were prevented a chance from Tyrone Magala-Bryan’s slip that SCR failed to capitalise on. Sheers almost scored from Aidan Larkin’s pass to Kareem Foster who chipped the keeper only for a SCR defender to get back and clear the ball off the line. SCR were denied by the Sheers stand in keeper Jamie Ryan from Isaac Olaniyan’s shot and the follow up from Daghan Basaranoglu. Half Time 0-0

Sheers opened the second half with a long shot from Callum Mackie that the SCR keeper Beckles got down to save. SCR raided the left side and sent a cross into the Sheers area that the Sheers keeper saved the deflected shot on target. A great chance from the Sheers was denied with Kareem Foster breaking through the SCR lines to just having to beat keeper Beckles who stood firm to block Foster’s shot. On the hour mark, Elliot York’s good play enabled shots from the Sheers Whitby & Larkin that were both blocked by the SCR defenders. SCR followed up soon after putting the Sheers under pressure after Aiden Larkin was too casual and lost the ball. SCR Benjamin Cook blocked Elliot York’s shot and the follow up from Aidan Larkin was brilliantly saved by the SCR keeper Beckles. Sheers sloppy corner is turned into attack by SCR that Oluseye Okunlola scores from 18 yards for SCR to take the lead on 73 minutes. Sheers free kick from 30 yards by Elliot York dips just over the SCR bar. Sheers drive forward with George Mackie crossing to the far post that Elliot York returns into the mix that comes out to the edge of the area that Razza Ajibloa shoots just wide of the target. Great play from Sheers Elliot York presents a great chance for Matt Bryant that is saved by the SCR keeper Beckles. Sheers continue to press forward with a long ball down the centre that is misjudged by SCR Cook & keeper Beckles that is touched on goal wards by Elliot York that keeper Beckles manages to get back and save the ball entering the net. Sheers pushed for an equaliser to the end but came up short on not taking their chances on the night.
